FurPaws is not a substitute for veterinary care. Our health scans and AI Coach are starting points for understanding your pet, not a diagnosis. For medical concerns, always consult a qualified veterinarian.

Getting Started
What does FurPaws actually do?

FurPaws turns a single photo of your pet into a complete profile. We identify their breed, flag potential health concerns we can see in the photo (coat, eyes, body condition, posture), and give you a breed-specific watch list of things to keep an eye on as they age.

Pro users also get an AI Coach that knows your pet's history, plus a Health Progress timeline that compares scans over time so you can see how your pet has changed.

Which pets does FurPaws support?

FurPaws currently supports dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, and guinea pigs.

We're working on supporting more species over time. Pets we don't currently support include birds, fish, reptiles, ferrets, and other small mammals not listed above.

Is FurPaws free?

Yes, FurPaws is free to start. The free tier includes:

  • 10 lifetime pet scans with breed identification
  • Health alerts and breed-specific watch lists
  • Pet profiles and scan history
  • Weather-aware care tips

Pro is $4.99/month or $39.99/year and unlocks unlimited scans, AI Coach, Health Progress timeline, and additional pets in your household. See "How do subscriptions work?" below for details.

How do I take a good scan photo?

For the most accurate scan results:

  • Good lighting: Natural daylight works best. Avoid harsh shadows or low-light conditions.
  • Whole body in frame: Include your pet's full body when possible — not just their face.
  • Clear focus: Hold steady so the photo isn't blurry.
  • Single pet: Take one pet at a time for the most accurate breed identification and health flags.
  • Plain background helps: A simple backdrop helps the AI focus on your pet.

If a scan returns unexpected results, try retaking the photo with better lighting or a clearer view of your pet.

Scans & Health
Are FurPaws health flags a diagnosis?

No. FurPaws health flags are visual observations only — things our AI noticed in the photo that might be worth a closer look. They are not diagnoses, and they don't replace a veterinarian's examination.

Think of FurPaws flags as a heads-up: "this is something to keep an eye on or mention at your next vet visit." Always consult your veterinarian for medical concerns about your pet.

My scan didn't return any flags. Is my pet okay?

"All clear" results mean FurPaws didn't notice any visible concerns in that specific photo. It does not mean your pet is healthy in every way — many health issues aren't visible in photos at all (internal organs, blood values, behavior changes, dental issues that aren't externally visible, etc.).

Regular veterinary checkups remain essential regardless of FurPaws scan results.

The breed identification seems wrong. Why?

Breed identification works best with clear, well-lit photos that show your pet's body shape, coat, and facial features. A few common reasons for unexpected results:

  • Mixed breeds: Many rescue pets have ancestry from multiple breeds. FurPaws shows the most likely matches with confidence percentages.
  • Photo quality: Blurry, dimly lit, or partial photos give the AI less to work with.
  • Unusual angle: Photos taken from above, behind, or at unusual angles can confuse breed detection.
  • Coat variation: Some breeds have wide coat variation. A black Labrador and a chocolate Labrador look very different but are both Labradors.

For mixed-breed pets, breed identification is an educated guess based on visible traits, not a DNA test. If you want certainty about ancestry, a veterinary DNA test is the gold standard.

Why didn't my scan complete?

Scan failures usually fall into one of these categories:

  • Network issues: Scans require an internet connection. Check your connection and try again.
  • Photo quality: Very blurry or dark photos may fail to process. Retake with better lighting.
  • Daily limit reached: Free users have 10 lifetime scans; Pro users have 20 per day. Wait until tomorrow or upgrade for more capacity.
  • Service interruption: Rare, but our backend occasionally has hiccups. Wait a few minutes and try again.

If scans repeatedly fail, please email us with your pet's species and your device type so we can investigate.

Subscriptions & Billing
How do FurPaws subscriptions work?

FurPaws Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription:

  • Monthly: $4.99/month, billed monthly
  • Annual: $39.99/year, billed annually (save 33%)

Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can cancel anytime through your device's account settings (see below).

How do I cancel my subscription?

On iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap your name at the top of the screen
  3. Tap Subscriptions
  4. Find and tap FurPaws
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription

On Android:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top-right corner
  3. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions
  4. Find and tap FurPaws
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts

Canceling stops future renewals. You'll keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period.

How do I get a refund?

FurPaws subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). Refund requests must go through them, not us — we're not able to issue refunds directly.

For Apple App Store purchases: Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the FurPaws purchase, and request a refund.

For Google Play purchases: Visit play.google.com/store/account/orderhistory, find the FurPaws purchase, and select "Request a refund."

If you have trouble with the refund process, email us and we'll do our best to help advocate on your behalf.

I upgraded to Pro but Pro features aren't showing.

This usually resolves on its own within a minute or two. If it doesn't:

  1. Force-close and reopen FurPaws
  2. Check your internet connection
  3. Sign out and sign back in within FurPaws
  4. On iOS: open Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions, and confirm FurPaws Pro shows as Active
  5. On Android: open Google Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, and confirm FurPaws Pro shows as Active

If Pro is showing as active in your store account but not in the app, please email us with your account email so we can investigate.

Can I switch between monthly and annual?

Yes. You can change your subscription tier at any time:

  • iOS: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → FurPaws → choose your new plan
  • Android: Google Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → FurPaws → manage

Apple and Google handle prorated billing automatically when you switch plans.

Account & Data
How do I delete my account?

You can delete your FurPaws account directly within the app:

  1. Open FurPaws
  2. Tap the settings (gear) icon
  3. Tap Account
  4. Tap Delete Account
  5. Confirm by following the prompts

Deleting your account permanently removes your pet profiles, scan history, and personal data from our servers. This cannot be undone.

Note: Account deletion does not automatically cancel an active subscription. Cancel your subscription separately through your App Store or Google Play account before deleting.

If you have trouble deleting your account in the app, you can also request deletion at furpaws.app/account-deletion or email us.

What data does FurPaws collect?

We collect only what we need to make FurPaws work:

  • Account info (your email and authentication details)
  • Pet profiles (names, ages, weights, breeds, photos you provide)
  • Scan results and history
  • Device location at city level (only if enabled, for weather-aware care tips)
  • Basic usage analytics to improve the app

We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't track you across other apps.

Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Are my pet photos used to train AI?

No. Pet photos you upload are used to generate your scan results and are not used to train AI models. Photos are processed for breed identification and health flagging, then stored only as part of your pet's profile and scan history.

You can delete individual scans (and their photos) at any time from your pet's profile, or delete your entire account to remove everything.

Can I use FurPaws on multiple devices?

Yes. Sign in with the same account on each device and your pet profiles, scan history, and Pro subscription will sync across them.

Note: subscriptions purchased on iOS work on iOS devices, and subscriptions purchased on Android work on Android devices. Cross-platform subscription portability is something we're exploring for the future.

Troubleshooting
The app crashes or won't open.

Try these steps in order:

  1. Force-close FurPaws and reopen it
  2. Restart your device
  3. Make sure FurPaws is updated to the latest version (App Store or Google Play)
  4. Make sure your phone's operating system is up to date
  5. If the problem persists, uninstall and reinstall the app (your data is saved to your account, not just the app, so you won't lose anything as long as you sign back in)

If crashes continue after reinstalling, please email us with your device model, OS version, and a description of when the crash happens.

I'm not receiving notifications.

Notifications require permission to be enabled. To check:

iOS: Settings → Notifications → FurPaws → make sure "Allow Notifications" is on.

Android: Settings → Apps → FurPaws → Notifications → make sure notifications are enabled.

If notifications are enabled but you're not receiving them, check that "Do Not Disturb" or Focus modes aren't filtering them out.

How do I send feedback or request a feature?

We genuinely love hearing from users — feature requests have shaped a lot of what FurPaws is today. Send your thoughts to support@furpaws.app with "Feature Request" in the subject line.

We can't promise every request will ship, but we read every message and pet-owner feedback drives our roadmap.

Didn't find what you needed?

We typically respond within 24-48 hours.
